A class web site can be a creative way of getting students excited about a subject and keeping them up to date on assignments. Because a class site should be engaging, I'll present information that makes the subject interesting and fun, such as brain teasers or activities from our current events unit. Of course, I'll want to include plenty of links so students can explore a wealth of ideas on the web.

In the News

Thank you for your patience as I attempt to get the class webpage up and running. It's hard to believe September has come and gone.
This year, I have the pleasure of teaching a combination grade six and seven class. The grade seven students are all students I had last year. I am hoping that they will be the leaders of the class and help mentor the younger students.
Reading is so important
Here are some tips to help your child become a successful reader.
-
visit the local library consistently, and encourage children to choose their own books
-
have a variety of literature available throughout the house (explain the five finger approach--if there are five words on a page the child can't read, the material MAY be too difficult)
-
make daily reading time consistent
-
give your child lots of outside experiences
-
limit the amount of TV, and video games
-
model an interest in reading yourself - have a weekly family reading time where everyone gets to read something of their choice at the table
-
share/discuss what has been read, newspapers, books, magazines
-
have a reading scavenger hunt
-
check out the BCTF parent web site for reading ideas, recommended books, etc...
Meet the Challenge!

Need to "flex" your brain a bit more? Try some of these BRAINTEASERS. They also help you practice creative thinking.
1. Do they have a 1st of July in England?
2. How many birthdays does the average man have?
3. Some months have 31 days; how many have 28?
4. A woman gives a beggar 50 cents; the woman is the beggar's sister, but the beggar is not the woman's brother. How come?
5. Why can't a man living in the USA be buried in Canada?
See if you can answer these. E-mail the answers to me.
